LE PETIT ENSEMBLE NOIR–Black Cocktail Suit, original by Marcel Dhorme for Théâtre de la Mode. In or around 1999 or 2000, doll maker/designer, Robert Tonner was inspired to recreate the fashions of the original 1945 Théâtre de la Mode for his 16 doll, Tyler Wentworth. This doll has never been out of the box (or maybe taken out of the box once). AND I’m not taking her out of the box to photograph her, so the main photo here is one I have gotten from the internet. The collector who I got these dolls from has simply been storing them carefully for about 17 years. The doll, the dress, the box, all are in nearly “like new” condition. Never even displayed, this doll is simply pristine. They are hard to come by these days! Quite aside from the charm and fascination of these little mannequins who fix a moment in time for us-it is totally unique to have 172 costumes from 52 couturiers in one single season to study. No museum in the world has anything to compare to this wealth. That was written about the original Théâtre de la Mode exhibit–opening in March of 1945 at the Louvre. It was a display of fashion created on 27 mannequins staged on small theatre sets, all of which later toured the world’s museums. The Théâtre de la Mode exhibit was the work of couturiers, scenic designers, milliners, hair stylists, seamstresses & tailors, and all manner of artists and artisans who created the accessories, shoes, embroidery, beading, mannequins, lighting, sets, etc. It’ll come to you from a smoke-free, pet-free, virus-free house.
